Knowing how to measure tennis grip ensures that one has the appropriate grip size, because this makes a great difference in the performance of a racquet. If your not certain on your best fit size there are two very simple ways in which one can measure: The racquet should be held using a forehand grip. You must be in a position where you can fit in the index finger of the hand that is not hitting snugly on the space that is in between the thumb butt and the finger tips as is displayed on the photograph. If there is no ample space, then the grip is very small.

Measuring the size of the tennis grip
If you lack a racquet handy and you need to know how to measure tennis grip, you can use a ruler. Using an open palm and extended fingers which are close together, align your ruler ensuring that the underneath lateral crease of the palm and then measure it to the ring finger tip.

Tennis Grip Size Ruler
If you are purchasing a racquet, you need to remember that increasing the handle size is an easier task than decreasing it. As a matter of fact, most of the present frame handles are not able to have their sizes reduced. If you want to know how to measure tennis grip when you are between grip sizes, choose a smaller size of the handles and it is possible to develop it 1/16 of an inch which is half the size to give the ideal fit.

Once you know how to measure tennis grip, you are advised to replace the grip on a regular basis. Most of the grip materials normally have a cushion backing which is able to compact after it has been used and hence it decreases the size. In addition, while you are playing, the grip is able to absorb perspiration and oil from the hand and hence losing its tack and feel. A grip which is fresh and properly wrapped provides you with better control of the racquet and comfort for the arm and hand.

What should I do incase I love the racquet and hate the handle shape?

In many cases you can remold the handle. Several companies also have different handle shapes. Volkl and Head handles contain a face bevel which is wide (the stringed sides) compared to the other companies. In turn, this is able to produce an enhanced flat feel on the hand. Prince and Wilson handles mostly have the four major bevels which are almost equal. This brings about a round feel on the hand. Therefore, if you take a liking to the head racquet and still want a handle feel similar to that of the old Wilson, we are able to do that, nevertheless it is expensive. You need to make a custom mold on the handle. The moment the mold has been created, it is possible for you to mold all the racquets, so that they are similar.

It is also possible for you to include other customizations on the handle shapes. There are those which are done using the above molding process and other methods. It is of great importance to know how to measure tennis grip. Hope you find this article is helpful to you.

Tennis lessons for kids and the game itself require considerable physical and mental endurance. This game has been in play for an excess of one century and can be considered an excellent means of children having fun while enhancing their physical fitness. Approximately 20 percent of children between 6-8 years are overweight and this has astonishingly increased to roughly 200 percent over the preceding three decades. A large number of experts believe that this is partly attributed to children lacking regular action in sports and other games that are physically enduring.

Tennis lessons for kids cannot be considered an easy sport to learn in the case of young children, but if the kids are started off right, they have a likelihood of becoming lifelong players. Not surprisingly, the key is ensuring that they are enjoying themselves. The best way of ensuring that they are having fun and equally learning appropriately is keeping them experiencing accomplishments. Progressions are used to guarantee success and they should be made to start small, easy and simple.

Below are examples of 2 different sorts of stroke:

For ground strokes:

Begin with a considerable short back-swing in addition to a grip that is possibly shortened. The follow-through should however be normal before gradually lengthening the backswing while sliding the grip towards the handle.

Begin with a drop-feed before proceeding to a short-toss feed and finally feed from the racquet.

Begin inside the server line and move back gradually.

Begin non-running, then several steps and finally a run. With the run, several kids hit considerably better.

For overheads:

Begin at the contact point with the racquet before gradually introducing a much bigger swing.

Let the student start at a mere 3 inches from the net before gradually moving the student backward.

The ultra-soft feed that you start with should be to the racquet’s right and then several higher feeds may be introduced.

Tennis lessons for kids should be kept brief. For kids aged 4-6 years, 30 minutes is usually sufficient. If the drills have caused the student any real complications, the final drill should be made something relatively easy, for instance volleys. With precise feeds, even the kid who is least coordinated will manage to get his volleys in.

Other techniques to make it fun learning tennis lessons for kid:
1. Kids have an ability of sensing in case you consider their progress not to be adequately fast and this has a likelihood of discouraging them from continuing to play.

2. Each remark should be inclusive of some aspect of praise while ensuring that most praise generously. In case a correction requires to be made, it should be prefaced with something optimistic.

3. Kids derive fun from counting towards easy goals, similar to obtaining 6 shots in a group in a bid of earning a game that is extra-long.

4. After the kids are acquainted with a good choice of games, they should be permitted to vote on several options that fit appropriately with the lesson of the day.

5. During tennis lessons for kids, drills should be followed with fun by starting the initial few lessons with ‘no-lose’ games and gradually introducing competition once confidence has taken hold.

One of the basic tennis skills and techniques is footwork which is basically weight control. It involves positioning the body in the correct position for appropriate strokes which should be worked on until they improve significantly. In illustrating the many types of strokes as well as footwork, I will write in terms of a right-handed player. Those who are left handed need to just reverse their feet. The grip of the racquet is a vital component of the stroke as a poor grip is bound to spoil any good serve. It is the natural grip that is used for a forehand top drive. It is naturally weaker when used for a backhand because the chop stroke is the most natural.

To get a good forehand grip grab a hold of the racquet with the frame’s edge facing downwards while face remains perpendicular. The racquet handle should point towards the body and the player should grip it like a handshake. The handle needs to be well settled and comfortable in the hand with the arm line, racquet and hand all parallel. The swing puts the head of the racquet parallel with the player’s arm and basically the racquet becomes an extension of the arm.

According to the tennis skills and techniques, the grip for the backhand forms a quarter of a circle hand turn using the handle and taking the hand to the handle’s top with the knuckles positioned directly up. The shot will then travel across the player’s wrist. This happens to be the most appropriate starting point for proper grip. I would not advice players to exactly copy this grip; however, they should modify it according to how comfortable they are, so as not to compromise any individuality. Once the racquet is settled in the palm of the hand, something to ponder is the body positioning as well as the organization of the developing strokes.

All the strokes in tennis need to be executed with the player’s body positioned perpendicular to the centre net as well as the shoulders parallel to the ball’s flight path. The weigh needs to constantly move forward passing the back foot and to the foot in front just as the ball is struck. The weight should never be allowed to move out of the stroke. The weight is what establishes the stroke ‘pace’ while the swing establishes the ‘speed’.

Let me expound on meanings of ‘pace’ and ‘speed’. ‘‘Speed’ is described as the precise rate at which the ball travels in the air while ‘Pace’ is described as the momentum that it comes off the court with. Pace is the amount of weight or the ‘sting’ that the ball contains once it comes off the court. This also gives the unsuspecting or novice players a surge of force that is hardly noticeable in the stroke. A large number of players ensure that they have both ‘pace’ and ‘speed’. Certain shots could have both these

Learning Tennis strokes should be done in this order:

1. The drive. Backhand and forehand. This happens to be the basis of tennis skills and techniques. It is impossible to set up any significant net attack without having a ground stroke with which to open with. Neither will it be possible for you to confront any net attack effectively without a good drive, because it is the one and only fruitful passing shot.

2. The Service

3. The Overhead Smash and Volley.

4. The Half Volley or Chop as well as other ornamental and incidental strokes.

Once these guidelines are followed there will be a significant improvement in the tennis skills and techniques.

Throughout history, shoes have been developed by people to fit certain lifestyles and this is clearly illustrated in the tennis shoes history. However, the actual design of the athletic shoes is what has occasioned the trends that have embedded sports into popular culture making it an active pastime. There are plenty of names used to describe tennis shoes and some include sneakers, sandshoes, gym shoes takkies or joggers. Whatever name is used to describe them, one thing for sure is that they have made sporting activity much safer and comfortable for users.

In the year 1907 a company started the process of stitching leather strips around the upper part of shoes in order to assist in cutting back stretching. This happened to be the initial stages of several dashes, which now make up the standard design of the contemporary sports shoes. As indicated by Steele, the earliest popular sports shoe was launched in America in the year 1917 with the brand name keds. The ‘K’ was considered to denote the term ‘kids’ while rest of name was a derivative that was meant to rhyme with ped, which is the Latin word for foot. In essence this brand was the pioneer in tennis shoes history.

According to the tennis shoes history by 1917, a higher boot variety was used for basketball. This variety was initiated under the brand name Converse All stars. This name was emblazoned on an ankle patch on the shoe. Henceforth, people referred to the shoes as chucks. As tennis became more and more popular in the 1920’s, this meant that adults wore these canvas shoes during their leisure time.

Although these tennis shoes were hardly considered as popular initially, the style became a fury following the 1st World War. As a way of showing patriotism and will power, the United States started to promote the development of sport. Famous sportspeople such as Jim Thorpe as well as Chuck Taylor endorsed these tennis shoes, which made them well known with the masses. Steadily, by around the 1950’s, tennis shoes developed into greatly renowned items which were not only worn for sporting activities but also for daily use. The shoes even become part of the school attire.

The development of the sports tennis shoe
Sporting shoes have gone through a lot of development in the tennis shoes history over the past one hundred years or so. They initially began as simple tennis shoes which have a flat sole, low top and a system of lace. As years went buy the height of the tennis shoe’ top’ has been altered and undergone numerous experiments. In the 80’s for instance the tennis shoe with a high top became very well known, more so with basketball players. These athletes enjoyed the benefits of additional support which helped to support the ankles. Currently, athletic shoes have a number of versions which include fashion sports shoes, high tops, low tops mid tops as well as specialty sporting shoes.

Sports shoe manufacturers
The great reputation of tennis shoes made them very profitable. Consequently certain manufacturers of shoes have come up with various brands of athletic shoes. The most famous sports shoes include the likes of Mizuno, Asics, Converse, DC shoes, Lacoste, New Balance Adidas, Servis-Cheetah, Quicksilver Fred Perry K-Swiss, Puma AG Reebok and Nike. Each shoe manufacturer offers their exclusive version of sports shoes and they normally have specific lines exclusively made for different activities such as extreme sports, soccer, basketball, walking and running. This is a clear testimony of how much the tennis shoes history has evolved.

As a result of the launch of Wii motion plus, tennis gaming applications have suddenly gained popularity and plenty of gamers are trying to find out the advantages of the new Nintendo controller when used to play virtual tennis online. Grand Slam Tennis from EA sports was the pioneer application and now SEGA have a chance to ensure people are jumping around their living rooms as a result of this scientific invention.

You will recall that virtual tennis 09 was launched several weeks before Xbox 360 and the PS3 and it has proven its worthiness within this series as it has an enhanced online mode. A disadvantage is that the World Tour series is definitely unchallenging and could be somewhat disappointing just like the progresson mechanics for players. The visuals are also less than impressive and bolting on the motion controls could assist in enhancing some vibrancy into this series. On the other hand, it could completely mess everything up completely.

Almost the same as the system that is used by Grand Slam Tennis, the placement of shots will be dependent on how late or early the ball is returned. An appropriate illustration is given by a shot gauge which sweeps right to left when shooting a forehand. The shot gauge moves from the left to the right hand side when shooting a backhand, which is almost the same as Gears of War’s Active Reload. To hit a shot onto the right area of the court, you will need to aim by making a connection with the tennis ball using an indicator which is on the bar to the right. The vice versa applies. Incase you go for the hit too late or too early, you are likely to knock out the ball or miss it completely. Meanwhile, when one wants to play virtual tennis online, running can be either determined by the AI or another option is a nunchuck plug in which attempts to blend motion control and stick control tethering. Players normally realize that this is not a really impressive operation.

When attempting certain shots as you play virtual tennis online there needs to be a perfect combination of timing, angle measurement, as well as the force that is applied. For instance, slices and drop shots can be executed by applying an upward tilt on the remote and swinging downward using different levels of force. A good smash is achieved by swinging the remote of the Wii in a downwards direction when the appropriate opportunity arises. This is normally when one is close to the net. In conclusion, lob shots are done by thrusting the remote of the Wii in an upward direction while simultaneously holding the A key down.

However, it seems considerably easier during coaching sessions in comparison to actual matches; even with the lowly ranked players on the World Tour mode that are able to whack the ball back at a speed that gives little chance of a return shot. Just like in reality, the higher the velocity of the ball approaching you, the reduced amount of time there is to react to it. Although this is the reality of an actual game situation, it is a difficult process to get accustomed to especially with a new controlling system. The key setback for sure concerns the fact that when you play virtual tennis online it is difficult to establish when to end up a shot, more so when the system misreads the movements of your hand at critical moments.

Do you know what is the most crucial external factor to make you play tennis well?

If you are learning how to play tennis well, the surface that you play on most of the times can be a determining factor on the type of tennis player you will turn out to be. The reason being a tennis ball will bounce differently on different surfaces. There are only three main tennis court grounds, which include hard, grass and clay. I am not going to discuss grass since players normally do not “grow up” or improve if they only play on such a surface.

Clay courts are among the slowest tennis courts. Knowing the nature of different tennis will helps you to play tennis well too. Of course, these courts are made from clay. For this reason, it makes clay courts softer than hard courts that are basically made from concrete. Soft clay courts slow down the tennis ball a lot whenever it bounces. In addition, since the tennis ball normally “digs into” clay a bit as it lands, it will bounce up higher more than it does on a harder surface.

Hard courts are made of mostly concrete and a mixture of other materials (and there are different hard court types). These are faster than regular clay courts as they have a surface, which is slicker, hence the ball will not dig in if it bounces. That previous fact means that balls never bounce that high when playing on a hard tennis court. In simple terms basing on the above discussion, you can clearly presume the facts that follow: clays results into slower balls with a higher bounce whereas hard courts will lead to a lower bounce and a faster ball.

Precisely, how does teaching yourself to play tennis well on a specific surface determine your playing style? The reason is courts made from clay slow down the ball that causes the ball to bounce up or come up more, such a surface is advantageous in achieving consistence rather than aggression. Somehow, it is a bit harder to get a winner while playing on clay surfaces than other surfaces since it requires more power to deliver the ball past your opponent. Meaning players teach themselves playing tennis on courts made of clay are most likely to develop a more “baseliner’s game.” Individuals will have to stand a few feet behind a baseline and endeavor to maintain the ball inside, waiting eager for the opponent to make any fault.

For comparison purposes, a ball will keep its pace on a tennis court that is hard more than it bounces. This eases the process of getting the ball through to your opponent. Hence, this also means that you will fail to get several balls that might have been possible on a court of clay. Simply maintaining the ball inside on high play levels is usually not enough. You have to be more aggressive and get the ball to your game opponent literally speaking if you want to know how to play tennis well.

There are so many other issues you have to consider that relate to court surfaces and possible affects on your game progress and development. Nonetheless, the above mentioned factors are the main ones. It might be worthwhile to take more time and think about the ideal surfaces you do want to use in learning how to play the game of tennis. After saying all that, when you work harder and develop each shot you get, you will have the ability to make a transition to and from other surfaces slightly easier. Alternatively, this means, in order to play tennis well, you have to learn how to play both offensively and defensively.

Schools, parks, indoor tennis centers and clubs make the best examples of where to play tennis easily. However, there are other numerous examples as well.

Playing in a Park
Tennis players can access several parks in all parts of the country without paying any fees. On the other hand, some parks ask for some minimal amounts of cash.

Playing In a Club
Clubs where to play tennis are available in different sizes and shapes and offer various tennis preferences for different budgetary allocations. While a number of clubs have weekly training for people who are not registered members, others present minimal rates and packages to members as well as various court access levels in relation to the members’ budgets.

Playing In a School
As far as where to play tennis is concerned, several schools by now offer tennis and have taken parts in major tennis competition with other schools as well. In case your school lacks a tennis programme, try to go through our school section to get to know how you or any of your teachers can get the programme started.

Playing In an Indoor Tennis Centre
During the rainy and cold winter days, most public indoor tennis centers offer players with pay-and-play courts to make them take pleasure in tennis on a yearly basis.

On the other hand, in looking for where to play tennis, you need to keep in mind all the court factors as well. All game plays will definitely be somewhat different when you play in different tennis courts. Therefore, it is important for you to review it prior to deciding on where you want to play tennis.

A popular tennis surface court is the one called “Rebound Ace“. This surface is usually hard and accessible in most of the global courts. It comprises a basic asphalt layer or/ and concrete topped using acrylic paint combined with sand to get consistent, semi-sticky, grippy surface. Normally, tennis courts made of Rebound Ace contain predictable speed and bounce because such courts are created consistently using the same materials, which are hard. This is what makes this court an appropriate place.

The other tennis court category that you are likely to come across is the one made using clay. Professionals make clay courts using crushed bricks and cover the bricks using loose, rough clay. Clay courts make balls stick to the ground better, slowing the ball movement. As a result, you might discover that you skid while making quick movements because of loose surface. To win a game on a clay court, improve your skills on how you hit the ball deep into your rival’s side of the court. While doing that, you need to use a lot of spin.

You might not come across many grass courts as they used to be in the past although you can come across a few of them. Wimbledon is not just a type of grass court but also part of the grass competition. Grass causes a tennis ball to bounce a little bit lower, making the grass courts quite advantageous for players making speedy, low shots. Altering shots from one shot-type to another offers you great advantage of where to play tennis over your rival when you play on grass.
